At first she classified me as a non-verbal because I never spoke. I preferred to write on paper squares that I folded into livelier shapes. She painstakingly unfolded them as if dissecting a new anthropological specimen.

David Mack on Meeting Dave McKean
From David Mack:
We have some mutual friends, like Jon Muth, Kent Williams and Allen Spiegal. Spiegal represents all of them as their agent and is also my agent for children's books and some other things. So I tend to see them all at the Allen Spiegal Fine Arts booth at San Diego.

So I've spoken with Dave there a couple times and we were all at a returaunt or bar for a while once where we talked some, but not really much shop talk. Mostly about what each of us were working on.

Spiegal had been going over my contracts for the Kabuki film and was discussing it, and the films that Dave was working on, and we each kind of chimed in about things. But from my experience with Dave and what Allen (who is much closer to him says) he seems maybe a bit of a shy or naturally quite fellow. He was nice and all and spoke but just a bit more reserved than the rest of the group there. But at times I can be that way, too.

And often at things like that, I tend to not get into shop talk. I'm so wired from the con that I'm not really interested in con or work talk and often bouncing off the walls about other ideas or pent-up energy.
