Joe Quesada: July 2004
Kabuki #1 ship date, San Diego, & Kabuki trades...
July 03 2004,02:15
I spoke today with my Marvel contact for the new Kabuki issue. It's at the printer and all squared away.
Marvel tells me that the #1 issue will be in stores on Wednesday July
21.
That just happens to be the first day of San Diego Con. I will be at
the San Diego con Wed 21 through Sunday. I will be there ALL FIVE DAYS
of the show. So please feel welcome to pick up the new issue at your store
on Wednesday and bring it to the con, and I will be happy to sign your
Kabuki issues. I will sign as many as you bring with NO SIGNING LIMIT.
If you buy my work, what ever you bring from your collection, or pick up
at my table, I will be happy to sign. Even if it is your entire collection
or multiple copies.
Just mention you are from this board and I will also be nice to you
I will also have original art there, a selection of 11x17 prints, Kabuki
back issues, Hardcover collections and paperbacks and more.
If you are looking forward to the new Kabuki series but have not read any of the previous Kabuki trades, you can start right at this series.
But I also hope you will pick up the trades to read in the couple weeks
before the new series begins. I suggest starting with volume 1 KABUKI:
Circle of Blood, or Volume 5 KABUKI: Metamorphosis. This new series begins
right where Metamorphosis leaves off, and it will give you some extra depth
and contrast for the new series.
Please post your respons to the Kabuki books when you get a chance to
read them.
Thanks,
David

Hi Bullwinkle,
We had a great time in Australia and in New Zealand as well.
Anh and I did both of those conventions in 2002 traveling with Mark Millar
and Frank Quitely and we had a blast.
It was great teaching the Master Class at the University of Technology
in Sidney. And the con was wonderful. So were the beaches:)
We did a lot of swimming on those trips.
I'm hoping to go back again when I have the time. My girlfriend
Anh went this year with Brian Bendis and Alisa Bendis to help alisa with the baby and so the girls could hang out and shop while Bendis was at teh
signings and writing. I wanted to go, but just had to stick to my
deadline schedule.
I sign at San Diego every year. You'll really enjoy it if you
make it next year.
And you can always order online from Anh. She sells all the Kabuki,
trades, hardecovers, back issues, prints and art at DavidMack.net.
And you can e-mail her at

Thanks Chico!
I'll post those answers to your questions in detail on this General
forum when I get it together
I appreciate you all reading Kabuki.
Kabuki and Powers-- are you gonna get
it?, One? Both? None?

Yay!
Glad so many of you are going to pick up the new Kabuki series!
And glad to hear some of you are going to check out the earlier Kabuki trades.
My fave of the trades is KABUKI: Metamorphosis. I'm glad some
of you have seen my three Daredevil stories, but Kabuki is definitely a
better example of my work. With Meta probably being the best example of my work in comics so far.
But I'm hoping to out-do it with the new Kabuki series KABUKI: The Alchemy!
Glad you all are checking this out. It will be a pretty long story
arc. No trade for at least 2 years. So I hope you are on with
this story and stick with it. I promise a lot of surprises, twists,
and explorations of the medium. As well as life, love, man, God,
and the nature of the universe.
And the original Kabuki Bendis are will be in the back of each issue
And it will be out in time for you to have it at San Diego. If
you are there, please stop by my booth and introduce yourself.
Best,
David

Check out KABUKI: Circle of Blood and the other Kabuki trades &
you'll see a striking contrast between the art styles. Not to mention
the writing styles, and structures.

And there is a mis-spelling from my previous post. It should say
there is the original Brian Bendis Kabuki ART showcased in the back of
each of the new Kabuki issues.
And here is that link to the pulse preview which shows the first five
pages of Kabuki #1...

kabuki: the alchemy #1, what did you
guys think!
July 27 2004,05:19
Hey friends,
Thanks for picking it up, and for the feedback!
Mnemo, I appreciate how you mentioned that each Kabuki volume has it's
own unique style and pacing. Each one builds upon the previous but
also boldly contrasts the previous art and writng styles and pacing styles
while evolving it.
This one will be doing that, but in its own way. Part of the structure
of it is that I wanted to begin it with a look that was a bit recognizable
and accessable to new and longtime readers, and then strikingly contrast
that with a new art look in the story as the character and changes and
the story rounds certain corners.
And each issue will contrast the other in its pacing and structure as
well. This issue was Kabuki's internal POV as she externally gets
from point A to point B. I wanted to give new readers a sense
of where she was coming from emotionally without re-capping actual events.
So I tried to give the Psycholigical sense of it through the metaphors
of her own thought process rather than spelling out previous details.
Whereas in issue #2 there is almost no internal monologue captions,
but entirely external interaction with another character.
And each of the issues will take her (and you) in a new place with other
characters and a different and varying look, pace, rythm and structure.
Kabuki, don't drink and draw part 2
