Also a big thanks to Sal from the Bendis board for gracing us with his
company in NY and for driving us to the airport after the show in his big
shiny van.
Mid-Ohio con THIS Sat & Sun...
WED, 11/27/02, 4:26 a.m.
Mid Ohio Con in Columbus Ohio is the Saturday and Sunday AFTER Thanksgiving...
THIS WEEKEND!
Andy Lee, Anh and I will be there set up together. We will have original
art for sale, prints, Kabuki back issues, paperbacks and hardcovers, T-shirts and more. Post here in advance if there is something specific that you want us to bring for you to pick up at the show.
I will be happy to sign any of my books that you bring with you, or
pick up at the table. I have no limit of the amount of things that I will
sign, and I do not charge for signatures.
Will be happy to discuss work with you, look forward to your feedback,
comments and questions. Usually Mid-Ohio con also has an hour long panel
where I discuss my work with the audience and do questions and answers.
There are lots of other great creators at the show as well. Please check
the website for details. Watching Andy Lee paint and draw commissions for
you is worth the price of admission alone.
Hope to see you there.

Daredevil film DVD...
WED, 11/27/02, 4:36 a.m.
The film has some cool scenes and shots from the Daredevil story I wrote.
And the writer/Director Mark Steve Johnson even put my name in the script,
as well as mentions of other DD creators. There is a line that goes "Miller,
Mack, and Bendis all work for me"
The Producers of the [Daredevil] DVD commissioned me to do an original painting
for the DVD. And there is a great extra disc of interviews with DD creators.
The DVD producers flew to my studio this past weekend to film the interview with me and are putting a lot of extra stuff in the DVD. They filmed like 3 hours worth of stuff (interview, art) with me, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it is edited and cut together.
The DVD also includes interviews with Frank Miller, Brian Bendis, Joe Quesada, Kevin Smith, Gene Colan, John Romita, and Ales Maleeve.
Re: Info on style of artwork
WED, 11/27/02, 4:48 a.m. - In Response To: Info on style of artwork
(Fatima Al Khuzaei)
Hi! wow! this is sooo cool! I feel honored to be messaging
David Mack, well, I am writing an Essay on you, and I would like some answers
on the following questions (don't worry they aren't personal)
Hi Fatima, Welcome to the message board. Thanks for reading my work and
for considering me for your essay.
How would you define your art?
I like to think that it defies definition.
as in if a stranger was to walk into a room filled with
many artists how would they know what piece is yours? what is your style?
My style is that I have no style. I let the message, themes, or character
of the story be the art. I try to choose the medium or approach that best
supports and communicates the tone, and them of the story.
I've noticed that in some of the series or covers, it looked
kinda similar to japanese printing, and then in some of the covers it's
well... I don't know how to describe it, more water color and splotchy
(good splotchy I love it!)yet some are more well defined than others. I
also saw that you did some collages, what are the series of art pieces
how would you categorize them?
I like to think that the individual pieces defy categorization. Hopefully
the story and art speaks to you in a pesonal way. The whole point of my
approach is so that the magic does not happen on the page. I want the art
or the story page to be just a map for the journey that is actually completed
in the readers head. The mind of the reader and audience is where the real
magic happens. The art or story page is just a navigational instrument.
Thanks soooo much for reading this! by the way, this paper
is due on the 17th of December 2002 so please help me out!
Good luck with the paper!
If you want to look at other interviews check out a pretty in depth
interview for Edge Magazine that I included in KABUKI: The Ghost Play (in stores Wed 27), or check out a recent interview at the Pulse (there is a link on a recent post on this message board).
Warmest regards,
David
I have the SCARAB action figure!
WED, 11/27/02, 12:33 p.m.
I just recieved the finished [Scarab] action figure from the factory today! It
looks incredible. It is the exact same size and proportion as the Kabuki
figure but it has way more articulations. I'm actually very fascinated
by the level of articulation it has. It is very playable. And it has 8
alternate hands of the hands in various states. It is very very cool.
I will have it at the Mid Ohio Con this week in case any one wants to
look at it. If you don't see it on the table, just ask me about it.
I think they are going to be offered in the Previws catalogue in 2003
timed for when the new Kabuki series is released. And them Siamese are the next figures to come after that.
Re: Mid-Ohio con THIS Sat & Sun...
WED, 11/27/02, 6:54 p.m. - In Response To: Re: Mid-Ohio con THIS Sat
& Sun... (Tony Isabella)
Hi Tony,
No sweat, I'm happy to discuss with the readers at my table. And the
next panel can be something special to look forward to at a future Mid-Ohio
Con.
See you soon.
David
My apologies, David, but I couldn't fit a Mack panel onto
the schedule this year. There were just so many guests, some of whom are
first-timers, that Roger Price and I had to make some really tough decisions.
I would have killed for a third panel room.
Please don't make me slice off part of a finger to make amends or
anything. Unless, of course, it's somebody *else's* finger.
I'll see you at the show.
Tony Isabella
