MACK, BENDIS, LEE in NY sept 14, 15-Big Apple Con!
THU, 8/23/01, 11:39 p.m.
I will be there both days with Brian Bendis, Andy Lee and Anh. We will have all kinds of stuff as usual, like original art, prints, hardcovers and paperbacks, back issues and more. We will be signing at the show all day.
The show is at St Paul's Church Auditorium. Go to Bigapplecon.com for details.
Only three weeks, so plan now. New York is fun. You should go anyway.
Had a great time at the Chicago Wizard World Con!
THU, 8/23/01, 11:53 p.m.
For all of you who came by, thanks! We had a great show, and it was
nice to meet the first timers and see the regulars.
Image had a great presentation booth for Brian and I and they made everything
great. Thanks Jim, Sean, and Bozzi!
We had some fun discussion panels, and I was happy to see Brian win
awards at the Wizard Awards. I was nominated for best painter, but Alex
Ross got it. We ran into him and his lovely girlfriend at our hotel later
that night, and he actually was trying to give me his award statue. At
one point he actually placed the award in my hand and insisted that I take
it. It was a surreal moment. And Alex was cool as always. Bendis said he
would have taken it.
Everyone was very nice. The entire thing was very fun. Image brought
a BIG birthday cake to Brian's table on Saturday and all of our fan's sang to him and got cake.
Saturday night at the Marvel Knights dinner, Brian also had a surprise
birthday party. It was a lot of fun. All of my favorite artists and writers
were there, and it was good to hang out with them and talk and eat the
GREAT food that Marvel Knights provided! Thanks Nanci, and Joe!
I talked there a bit with Paul Jenkis, Jose Villarubia, Joe Linsner,Jenny
Lee, Kevin Smith, jeff Loeb (who I had not spoken with very much before,
and he was very nice and friendly to me. Was good to speak with him), Stuart
Moore, Joe and Nanci Quesada (Anh was holding their baby most of the time), Greg Horn, and a who's who of the industry.
Mostly Brian and I were just delighted by all of the great feedback from our readers and the positive feeling that everyone at the show seemed to have. It was a very great experience.
SCARAB #8...mysteries revealed!!!
FRI, 8/24/01, 12:05 a.m.
It is either going to be in stores this coming Wed or the next one. I'm really looking forward to hearing about what you think of this issue. There are a couple parts that may make you look back at some of the early issues on Metamorphosis (Kabuki 1-9). Especially issue #3, I think.
And there will be sections with each of the Noh Agents featured. And you do learn about answers to some of the questions posed in the Metamorphosis story.
So I would suggest to any Scarab fans who have not read Metamorphosis (Kabuki 1-9) that they read it before reading Scarab #8.
But I ask of you, Please, PLEASE do not post any spoilers from Scarab #8 on the message board or anywhere else on the Net. Please do not even post the spoilers with spoiler warnings.
I do really want to hear what your feedback is to this issue and the
Scarab story as a whole, but please post messages about it that do not
give ANYTHING away.
Thanks!
David

And one other thing, Rick's art on this issue is AMAZING.

David and Anh
I am very happy the show was successful for you. The KABUKI/POWERS booth was my groups meeting place several times during the day. "noon at David Mack's" I heard you speak to several people who's first taste of your work was Daredevil, and were asking where to start with Kabuki. It also was nice to be recognized, if by name only, from this message board.
This was my first year to go out after con, and it really blew me
away to see all the comic superstars at the bars, just hanging out. I had
a toast with the crew from RED STAR, and I sat and talked to Paul Jenkins.
Was there anytime for you to go out and search through the vendors?
Did either of you find that special treasure? Just curious what you look
for when you are at con.
We didn't have any time to search, but upon walking to the back to see
how Andy Lee was doing (he was incredibly busy. He ruled Artist Alley!) we passed Jeff pittarelli's (artist that works with Soreyama, mostly does very large real looking airbrush pieces) booth.
He was selling a Kabuki airbrush study that he had based on a photo of Anh. The likeness was incredible. So we bought that immediatly.
Our treasure original from San Diego was a brush portrait that Jon Muth
did of Anh. And Scott Morse gave a great Kabuki painting there.
