Oct 01, 2004 12:52 am
Glad to hear that!
Thanks for taking the innitiative to give it a shot.
let me know what you think of the previous stories.
i recomend KABUKI: Circle of Blood, and KABUKI: Metamorphosis volumes that will give you a good sense of Kabuki and the story and add new meaning to the current story.
Which of my DD stories did you read? I've done 3 so far. The first with Joe Q drawing. Then Wake Up with Bendis scripting.
The recent Echo story, I don't really consider a DD story, as I was
asked to do an EchoM series without DD in it.
Please post your Kabuki response when you get a chance to read the others!

Yeah, just cut it out or put a sticker over it. Or even bette, write
a new letter and glue on top of it that says what you would prefer that
it says now.

Doh!
I'm glad they had it for you.
Please give your retailer my thanks for carrying my book in the store.
But maybe you should also suggest that if they had a few extras for
friend buys and recommendations it would be helpful.

You have good taste, Nick.
The story will be very fun.
Each issue is a bit different with a dif rythm.

Since both of you mentioned you'd wear the shirt [with the Little Friends Animal Clinic logo], maybe I should make some.
Would you prefer it as a tank, or as the girl style like the other
Kabuki shirt you have? I could also make them in regular Tee style for guys.
If I get a few more requests for it, I'll go ahead and draw one up.
and get it printed on shirts.
And thanks for the great feedback about the issue!

He's not 40
I'm 31 and he's only 5 or 6 years older than me.

I'll see what I can do about getting the shirts made
I saw your recent "nipple" post on my Kabuki board
But when I went back to answer it, it was gone.
Cool that you got that old book with previews of future Kabuki stuff.
There is a Bendis Goldfish in there too.

I'm glad you are looking forward to reading the story eventually.
But I should warn you that the trade is a minimum of 2-3 years away.
The Alchemy storyline looks to be around 10-12 issues long.
Bi-monthly.
Re: Kabuki #2 this week. Who's getting

It occurs to me to ask if the letters collumn in Kabuki is helpful or enjoyable for readers.
Is it something you look forward to?
Or could you take it or leave it.
I've tried to provide ample space to present the many letters. And I
try to use it as a place to answer questions, and discuss and show unique
points of view from readers.
Do readers here read all of the letters collumn for this info? or not
so much?
Also do you like the inclusion of 1993 the Brian Bendis Kabuki artwork?
Should I keep including it?
New Kabuki cover by Adam Hughes!
Oct 02, 2004 2:39 pm
Who here loves Adam's work?
He's said for a while now that he has wanted to do a Kabuki piece.
Yesterday he told me that he is starting on it this week.
I should have the finished piece very soon!
So I'll probably use it for an alternative cover for Kabuki #4.
Is this something you would like?
Please let me know your opinions on this.
I'll post the art here as soon as I get it next week

I'm right on the verge of confirming my attendance in Dallas at the
Wizard Texas show in November.
I'll decide over the weekend and probably have an answer by Monday.
I loved it last year when I signed at the Beckett booth. And they just
asked me to sign at their booth again, so I'm leaning in that direction.
Anyone else going to Dallas?
Re: New Kabuki cover by Adam Hughes!
Oct 03, 2004 1:31 am
Well, the way I did the covers with the Kabuki #1 issue had two levels.
The first was that retailers could order any quantity of either cover that
they wanted.
Instead of strict 50/50 this puts 100% of the control and choice in
the hands of the retailers and fans.
If you want both covers, you order both. If you only want one, you
order the one you want. And both were shown in the previews catalogue.
The other level was as a free bonus to the retailers. For every 10 they
ordered, they recieved a Maleeve cover for FREE.
So that way gives everyone complete choice, and also rewards retailers
with a completely FREE issue for ordering a healthy amount.
Unless anyone doesn't like that way, I'd probably do it again, as I
feel it is the most fair, and gives retailers a free bonus.
What do you think?
Re: New Kabuki cover by Adam Hughes!
Oct 03, 2004 1:38 am
I'm glad you are loving the direction.
Thanks all for the feedback so far.
I have some other never before published kabuki art by some of my other
favorite artists. A Kent Williams Kabuki. Scott Morse. Amano. Jon Muth.
Thom Ang. Oeming. And Bill Sienkewiecz said he'd like to do a Kabuki painting.
I'd like to know what artists you might like to see do a Kabuki cover
in the future. Please give my your suggestions of THE artists you definitley
want to see do a Kabuki cover in case I ever do another alternate.

Thanks for trying it.
I recomend at least picking up the #1 issue as well. It will give you
more of a context for the series. And it should still be available on the
shelf. And can still be reordered (both covers can).
If you dig that, I'd suggest the first volume KABUKI: Circle of Blood
and the volume before this story, KABUKI: Metamorphosis.
Thanks!

Good to hear all the requests for the animal clinic shirt from Kabuki

I guess I'll have to get it drawn up.

Re: Kabuki #2 this week. Who's getting
it?
Oct 04, 2004 2:35 pm
Hi Godzilla Wax,
Thanks for trying Kabuki. I certainly feel Kabuki is the prime example
of my work in comics. KABUKI: Metamorphosis probably being the best complete example of my work in comics as a writer and as an artist.
So it is ceratainly a personal investment as I created it.
But I see all of my DD works as a personal work as well, but in a more collaborative way.
The origin of the Kingpin story that I wrote in my first DD run as writer drew a lot form personal experience.
And the Wake Up story was a personal one for both Bendis and myself.
And there are certainly a lot of personal moments that I drew from in
the Echo story. Especially of her as a child learning to navigate and decipher the world.
But the collaborative part is that all those stories are also told withing
the perameters of the Marvel history and publishing structure.
So Kabuki is still naturally a much more personal venture as it is a 100% self generated and self guided.
I appreciate you taking the innitiative to read the new story.
If you get a chance to read any of the trades, let me know what you
think.

I picked it up, but I haven't read it yet. With bimonthly shipping
books, I tend to sit on them until arcs are finished so I can read them
in one sitting.
But I loved your DD stuff, so you've earned my trust to the point that I can wait to read a full arc and not be dissapointed.
To better equip myself to enter the world of Kabuki, I've sworn to buy the trades sequentially each week a new Icon Kabuki is released, so a dished out cash for both Kabuki #2 and Dreams.
Dreams was good stuff, btw.
MIKE D!
Thanks! I appreciate the kind words
I'm glad you liked my DD work enough to continue to pick up all the
new Kabuki issues!
And I'm happy that you are getting the trades to read first.
I think they'll get better to you as you go volume by volume until
you work your way up to the new series.
Best,

All the students studying KABUKI: Metamorphosis in the NKU Literature class, feel welcome to bring your books to get signed.
Will have original art, prints, and all of my books.
Denny, you are welcome too! Probably around an hour drive from you.
And hope to see you at Mid-Ohio con too
It's a great store. Everyone is welcome.
Probably more info will be posted on davidmackguide.com when I hear
