My experience is that David will bend over backwards for his fans. You don't have to bat your eyes at him. (Although I did and he punched me. Go figure.)
I've seen the recent Chicago pics and I did do a lot of backwards bending in Chicago, didn't I?

But batting eyes is fine. I encourage it.

Em, It was great to meet you in Atlanta!

And for the peeps just trying Kabuki, let me know how you like it

Any readers from the Phillipines here?
Sep 21, 2004 9:23 am

I was invited to go to the Phillipines by a person who owns a chain of bookstores called FULLY BOOKED to sign at a main bookstore event.

I'm looking forward to visting and signing there.

I do get some Kabuki fan mail from the Phillipines. Any readers on this board?

Any advice or suggestions?

Best,
David

Thanks!

That is good!
I appreciate all of you introducing others to Kabuki.

This book has thrived because of exactly this kind of word of mouth and personal introduction!

Thanks for keeping the dream alive!

Perfect timing!

You're going to love the signing here. And this con will put you in touch with everyone on the local comic scene.
Some great stores in the city too.

Bendis, Joe Q, Mack at Arizona signing in October! AtomiCon!
Sep 22, 2004 7:07 am

FREE!

Signing at Atomic Comics...

From thier new press release (look for a more detailed list of creators listed on davidmackguide.com):

We’re doing it again! The weekend of October 22nd & 23rd Atomic Comics is holding it’s 2nd annual October Free Comic Book Day extravaganza, subtitled “Atomic-Con”. Loads of creators (and we’re still adding more!) have signed on to help make this weekend special including Joe Quesada, Brian Michael Bendis, David Mack, Frank Cho, Jim Mahfood, Steve Rude, Robert Kirkman, Mike Kunkel, Scott Kolins, Cory Walker, Chris Giarrusso, James Owens, Raven Gregory, Patrick Scherberger, Marat Mychaels, Rob Osborne and of course, the official Marvel Comics Spider-Man himself! How often do folks get to meet that much talent for free?!?!?

On Friday evening, Atomic is hosting a charity original art auction with 100% of the proceeds benefiting ACTOR and the East Valley Child Crisis Center. During last year’s October FCBD we raised $4000.00 for charities, and with this year’s line-up we’re hoping to blast way past that number!

Saturday the 23rd is the day for the fans! Free comic books for everyone! Spider-Man in person to meet the kids (and the kid in all of us), and some of the comic industry’s brightest stars on hand for autographs! Add in all sorts of cool sun stuff from donut dunking to face painting to yo-yo contests, and we’re looking at one fantastic weekend of thank-you’s for our industry’s loyal fans!

As Michael Malve, Atomic Comic’s owner put it, “Yowza! This is huge! This is FREE!”

Re: Any readers from the Phillipines here?
Sep 22, 2004 7:24 am

Thanks all!
I really appreciate all the info!
I'm very much looking forward to the trip. I probably won't be able to go this year because of my publishing schedule, but I hope to confirm it for next year. I'll post the date and details here when it is worked out.

I met the guy who owns all the FULLY BOOKED bookstores this past San Diego con. He was super nice and carries Kabuki in his stores, and I did an interview and photos for his FULLY BOOKED newsletter.

He said there was a great fan base of Kabuki readers there, and I told him I do get fan mail from Phillipines (and met some readers from there who travel to San Diego Con).

And to those from Singapore, I also get mail from Singapore! Thanks for speaking up!

Please keep the info coming

And thanks for all the great responses so far!

Oh, and Yano, I LOVE your photo

Thanks for chiming in. Good to talk to you in Chicago! And we also met in LA (Southbeach) right?

Give my regards to your pals!

Re: Kabuki- Circle of Blood
Sep 22, 2004 7:30 pm

Hey!
Really glad you are liking it!
Thanks for mentioning it. Vol 5 is my fave of the current 6 volumes.
But like RC said, since you already read Circle, you should read Vol 4: Skln Deep before going to Vol 5 Metamorphosis.

You'll still want vol 2 & 3, but you can read them later when you have more bling bling.

But don't go without eating!

I'd like to think your local shop has Kabuki. Please give them my thanks if they do!

What shops do you go to when in the ATL?
I often stop into Criminal Records in little Five Points.

Please let me know what you think of the other books

It's a really dorky photo!

And yeah, we did meet in LA. I've actually seen you at the Chicago 'con for the last several years, but have been too shy to say 'Hello'. I'll tell the rest of the Asian girl gang you say hello.

One thing my sister said when I told her you were thinking of going to the Philippines was, "Make sure he's careful! He could get kidnapped! And stay away from Mindanao!"

Yeah. Kidnapping's a big deal there.

And thanks to Pat Loika for re-affirming that yes, Yano DOES rule!

The photo is charming!
So you saw me all those other years in Chicago and didn't say hi until LA?

Kidnapping?
Is that still in? That's so 1990's.
Is there a new trend happening yet?

I'm pretty useless for political or monetary kidnapping.
No one is going to pay a ransom for me. Especially not Marvel :)
And no one can let me escape cause I will draw their picture and a map to their hideout
And no one is going to acknowledge that I am working for them.

Unless I was kidnapped by one of those "Girl gangs" that you mentioned. Then that could be fun.

Yeah Goodman, I don't think I'll need a bodygaurd. I better deal with those girl gangs on my own.

Glad to hear all the store shout outs!
Everyone give all your stores my regards and personal thanks for carrying Kabuki!

Has this event already been posted yet?

If not, someone should sticky it as a solid to the store and the signing.

Anyone here from Arizona?
Have you heard about this yet?

Re: Mack or Bendy, Is Andy Lee still coming to Portland?
Sep 23, 2004 8:45 am

Yep! He's still going.
His mustache is heeling up nicely and he's feeling fine.

He's going directly from Portland to China for a while right after the con.

Yay!

Glad you got'em
Let me know what you think.

Please say hi from me to the peeps at Criminal Records next time you are there.
Hopefully they will have re-stocked the other books by then.

Maybe I'll see you in ATL some time. And I'll probably be at Dragon Con again next year, and I'll throw in some more freebies for you, Em and Kim if you are there again.

Re: Any readers from the Phillipines here?

Hi Dawn!
Your first post on this board!
Glad to see you here. And good to see your new post on my Kabuki board as well.

I know you are good people!
Some of my very closest friends are from the Philippines.
(Check out some picks of my friend Ean in some of the Reflections books. The photo of him and I with Kevin Smith and others
I saw a recent thread on this board mention him as the "Bad Ass Muscular Asian Kung Fu guy" that the poster saw me with at a tournament in Atlanta.

And I do love the food!
The first few years I went to San Diego, instead of a hotel, I stayed with the families of some Filipino friends and we had the best food everyday after comicon! The families of my pals Dan Cabuco and Arnold Ayala. You may have seen Cabuco's name in some Kabuki books and they both have art in the Kabuki Gallery from 95.

I'm going to make every effort to do a signing at FULLY BOOKED in Manilla as soon as I can carve out the time in my publishing schedule.

I really appreciate all the feedback and advice to my post here.
And I urge everyone to continue to advize and comment.
It is really good to hear from readers there and great to know I have a fan base who would enjoy the signing if I make the trip.

Dawn, I dig your pic in your Avatar with the Kabuki scar on your face:)
Good to see you in San Diego!
I hope you had a good time at Comicon

St. Louis this weekend? I know you said you might not be able to, I just wanted to check again!
Nay.
Maybe in the future.

Andy Lee says he is still going. He thought he would be driving by my place first, in case I decided to go last minute. But he realized my place is out of his way anyway.
So i think I can pretty much say that I won't be there.

But I'd like to in the future. It's been a while since I did a signing in St Louis.
And Andy Lee and I met at Washington University in St Louis, so it would have been fun to go back to our old stomping grounds and see how things changed.

Hey Valter!
Good to see you here too!

Your first post here
This thread is becoming the port of entry for readers from the Kabuki board to this board! We've opened up a worm hole.

Very cool to hear a shout out from all the peeps!

Re: Any readers from the Phillipines here?

You can probably find the thread where the poster was talking about Ean by a search, or I'm sure its one that Thornton has archived on davidmackguide.com.

The comicon was fun! Was good jumping with you

I'm looking forward to it.

What is your advice about what you said regarding what people to hang out with?
