May 11, 2004 12:09 am

Hey Macmanyosi,
I will indeed have all the Kabuki trades with me. I'm glad your going to get it and try it out!

Please introduce yourself with your board name, and I'll give you extra free stuff and personally introduce you to Andy Lee. You'll get a kick out of him.

And Saul, you and all are completely welcome to stare at him and his painting as long as you want. I think he likes the crowds and the staring

Re: help with a UFO essay paper?
May 11, 2004 12:14 am

Just show them the government documents. Have you heard of Majestic 12?

Sometimes called MJ12?

Since the freedome of info act, you can look it up (though much of it is still blacked out).

Look up Bob Lazar who worked at area 51 and was shown the hovering crafts from which the government is using to reverse engineer the propulsion system.

Look up author Jim Marrs. The guy who wrote crossfire that the JFK movie was based on. He also researched the government ufo coverup and sites all his info and documents. He has written books on it. Should be easy to find some high points on it on a site about him.

Re: help with a UFO essay paper?
May 11, 2004 12:22 am

Jim Marrs makes for a great argumentative case for all he researches. JFK was a great film version of case in point.

His UFO/governemnt research is just as well documented.

Besides that check out J-rod. I don't know if this is on the internet, but I have an uncle at Nasa, a close friend in Air Force intelligence ( I travelled to China with him on assignment with info that docked us as students), a freind in NSA and a friend who used to be in the Army intelligence stationed in Korea where he trafficked info to CIA and ather intelligence branches.

Also check out the USSR files on this. Russia has a lot of actual filmed events, recovered craft, and more info that is easier to get after the break down in the Soviet Union that it is to get here.

Also site the times that Reagon stated it in public press conferences. THese are taped and you can see the tape.

Re: help with a UFO essay paper?
May 11, 2004 12:31 am

For a fun paper, you can cite all the abductees statements. These are very interesting. But for an ARGUMENTATIVE paper, I recomend that you avoid all of these statements.

For argumentative, use ONLY government, presidential, and military statements, papers, documents. It carries a lot more weight.

Look up Colonel Jesse Marceau.

Use the USSR and China documents.

Use Reagan statements. Marrs sites everyone. Should be easy to pick and choose from info on his research you can find on-line search.

Check Lubbock lights. Use actual newspaper headlines from 1947. Chronicaling Roswell crash. 1947 Same year the OSS became the CIA.

Old WW2 Office of Strategic Services became Central Intelligence Agency.
Also Same year Israel officially named a state. Busy year.
Then site the actual Israel film footage of crafts. Russia, China, and UK have great military footage as well, that can be found on line.

Re: help with a UFO essay paper?
May 11, 2004 12:51 am

If showing cover-up, I suggest sticking only with government files. The MJ12 files and others, easily show that on their own. Not hard to argue a government cover up of something as that is what governments and military do by nature with thier black projects.

Show papers for "groom lake" and "area 51" installations. Government says is not there. Other documents show that is there. ALready have a proven cover up to start with. Then go into the heavy MJ12 documents and the Marrs stuff and the Lazar stuff as he worked there and can document his other government work in propulsion systems and Los ALamos.
Even paper that shows he worked at 51.

If you really WANT to show non-gov stuff, or if you want to touch on abduction, ONLY mentione the work of HARVARD psychiatrist John MACK.
MACK is the only non-gov documents you should mention as Harvard will carry more weight in an argument than the rest.

Can also get lots statements from Military and ex-military. Avoid Nasa or Seti info.

Re: Steranko influence on Bendis?
May 11, 2004 2:02 am

Steranko is a super great guy and definitely an influence on me. I know he was inspirational to Brian as well.

There are some pieces in Kabuki: Circle of Blood that are very Steranko inspired. In some ways, Kabuki was probably my way of trying to do an inovated espianoge story the way his Agent of Shield stuff inspired me as a kid.

He came up to my table at a con in 95 and said people were telling him to read Kabuki cause it had the kind of innovation and charm that he looked for in books. I gave him some books. Later he called me up and we continued to have a great phone relationship discussing storytelling.

He offered to help in any way and became a bit of a mentor with his advice and questions. He kept telling me if there was any way he could help, so I asked him to write the intro to KABUKI: CIrcle of Blood.

And he did! As a 22 year old kid, I was hugely psyched by this as I was a fan of his innovations as teenage just a few years earlier.

And then he also painted a KABUKI cover, which was amazing to me.
I was honored to have KABUKI in his bibliography of works. Especially, as you noted, his actual comic book count is pretty small.

We did some cons together in New York and hung out at night and had dinner and discussed all this stuff. It was like having dinner with Nick Fury.

Amazing guy. I called him after seeing the last History CHannel comic thing. SUper guy all around.

I've been asked to speak at Harvard...
May 11, 2004 2:08 am

The Harvard and Radcliffe Sience Fiction Association has asked me to come to the campus and do a panel, workshop, reading, and signing at their annual Science Fiction convention.

It sounds great, I'm honored to be one of thier guest authors for this event, and I am intending to go. It is next January 30.

Does anyone here go to Harvard?

Any experience with this Harvard Sci-fi event?

I've done things like this at other universities. University of Technology in Sydney Australia, NKU... and I have been asked to do School of Visual Arts in NY, Savanah College of Art and Designe, and Berkely, which I also intend to do when I get the chance.

But I've never been to Harvard. Andy students or graduates know anything?

Thanks,
DM

Hey Mayhem,
I think it is Friday too. Anyone have the Friday show hours?

Re: help with a UFO essay paper?
May 11, 2004 2:23 am

MAJESTIC in gov - military terms is one of the HIGHEST clearances.

SECRET, TOP SECRET, CLASSIFIED, are high level clearances, but MAJESTIC level clearance tops all of those. The higher the clearence the fewer people that are cleared to see it.

I have a "friend" who was cleared pretty high to see stuff when forwarding it to the proper place.

The Majestic 12 were the top of the top of that clearance level.

THere are one of these papers that also has the presidents signature on them.

Let me know if you see the J-Rod stuff. Hardly anyone knows about that stuff and I'm not even going to discuss it here.

Probably better to limit this paper to the MJ-12 stuff.

Did you see John Mack yet?

If you like Popular Mechanics, or cutting edge propolsion systems, "directional gravity" or theoretical physics, I suggest you check out the Bob Lazar explanation of the propulsion systems.

You can track his paper trail and credentials.

Re: Steranko influence on Bendis?
May 11, 2004 2:32 am

That Frogs story is amazing.

Everyone can find a great printing of it in the new EDGE anthology.

Also he has had several other carreers. Musician, Magician, Escape Artists.

Michael Chabon's Pulitzer prize winning novel Calier and Klay is based largely on him.

Also Kirby's Mister Miracle (the escape artist) was based on him.

We once had this great discussion of how when you are doing several carrears at once, it is like you can be living several lives. Pack some extra lifetimes in those times when other people are watching TV.

Re: Steranko influence on Bendis?
May 11, 2004 2:39 am

I saw an interview with Spielburg as he was talking about Steranko's work and how they hired him to do his pulp hero look and had Steranko design Indian Jones. THe character and much of the look of the film.

He was also involved in Copola's Dracula, and in Empire Strikes back.

He's had a huge influence on the populare culture on many levels.

Steranko influence on Bendis?
May 11, 2004 2:47 am

Yeah it includes the Superman guys and that reality, but a huge amount of it, especially the escape artist stuff is pure Steranko.

Re: Steranko influence on Bendis?
May 11, 2004 2:49 am

Check out the photo section in the back of one of the KABUKI: Reflection books for some shots of Steranko and I as judges to an art show contest in New York.
Bendis is sticking his head in one of the photos as well

Glad you hear you go there.

Comicopia!
They've been great Kabuki supporters from way back!

Please tell them I say hello.
I'd love to make it there.

I first heard of them years ago from a Kabuki reader named Victoria Yuen who mentioned them in several of her letters.

Please give them all my regards!

Re: Does Anyone Know about Mack-daddy's...
May 11, 2004 3:40 am

In case I forgot to mention it earlier, I did several other Alias covers besides what were published.

A few of these unused Alias covers were included in the new Alias collection with the last ALias story.

SOme cool Purlple Man covers in there

Re: I've been asked to speak at Harvard...
May 11, 2004 3:53 am

Shwicaz,
Thanks for passing it on to Matt!
Comicopia has been a great supporter of my stuff for so long.
I've spoken with them on the phone to thank them for being such a great store and having Kabuki in stock for local readers to pick up.

Thanks for all your great posts I've been seeing around

Re: Does Anyone Know about Mack-daddy's...
May 11, 2004 4:01 am

Yeah that Purple Man story was a GREAT Bendis story. My Girlfriend loved it too. Bendis had some great ideas for those covers.
And some of the unused Purple Man covers were some of my faves. I'm not sure why they didn't use them for the actual covers. But they look great in the collection. They did a great jop of putting that trade together.

Other unused Alias covers in there to.

Re: Kabuki live action film questions...
May 11, 2004 4:15 am

Hi Peter,
Yeah, on the old Bendis board Kabukiboy ( I think that was his name) broke the news that his brother is a custom furniture maker and that John Sayles came into his store to buy stuff from him. He asked Sayles what he was working on, and Sayles tells him about Kabuki.

Before that, I had thought I was supposed to keep it a secret.

But I guess it wasn't too hard to figure out anyway, as John Sayles wrote the afterword in my KABUKI: Metamorphosis trade. Great afterword too!

But yeah, I'm a huge John Sayles fan too. And he has been great to work with.

After my initial treatment, he wrote several drafts of the screenplay.
He was great to talk to on the phone. He's a real class act.

I also know that he got a HUGE paycheck from writing the Kabuki script, so I like to think that Kabuki was a big part in financing those new Sayles independant films

I love his independant films, so it is good to think that the Kabuki project contributed to that

He's an Acadamy Award winning writer and director, and very smart, and totally cool to talk with. It was way nice of him to write the afterword for me too.

When he turned in the first version of the screenplay, the opposite pages had all the panels cut out of my books as visuals to correspond to the text in the screenplay. It was really interesting to think of John Sayles cutting up all my Kabuki issues and pasting the panels together in his screenplay.

I've never seen a screen play like that before. And it was real interesting reading Kabuki stories that he was adapting from my characters.

Re: help with a UFO essay paper?
May 11, 2004 4:36 am

Just to respond to something you said, about the relativity. But I suggest you leave this out of your paper. Just keep the argumentative paper focused on the documents and cover up. But just food for thought...

You know how everyone always points to evolution and asks where is the missing link?

Well they are looking at that from a very ethnocentric point of view. You aren't going to see the missing link if you ARE the missing link.

Consider all the stuff we are doing with DNA. And we don't even know that much about it.

There are several theories that point ot the idea that we were seeded here.
You know how we have 99.9999 percent of the same DNA as the Chimps?

Well say, someone comes here and sees the chimps. Puts a fraction of their own DNA and mixes that with the chimps for thier own controlled DNA experiements (similar to how we do). Every now and then, they come in and check up on how the experiment is going, or the harvest something useful from it. Also explains why so similar to chimps but why there is a huge jump in the fossil records.

Read Genesis. First chapter in the bible.

This is just for mind excercise. I urge you to leave it out of your paper.

Brian! HaHA!
You know, here in Kentucky, David Mack Day is approaching...

Re: help with a UFO essay paper?
May 11, 2004 4:49 am

Read it again.
Of course it is the story of creation. Of course it is God creating the earth. But there is a lot more there than people mention in church.

For instance: The sons of Heaven mate with the Sons of Man.

Re: help with a UFO essay paper?
May 11, 2004 4:51 am

HaHA! I agree with Lord kinbote.
Only use the government documents showing cover up and presidents, military etc.

Re: help with a UFO essay paper?
May 11, 2004 7:16 am

That's fine. I shouldn't have distracted you with that. It's way off topic. It was something I've been studying lately in comparison to the words and meanings in the original language. The stories and words in the original Hebrew have broader meanings than what has got filtered down to us.

But I hope the on-topic things I mentioned have been helpful in your paper. And hopefully interesting to you as well. Good luck

I have no idea if you will be able to find any of this on line, but the clearance level above MAJESTIC is called MAGIC. Also MAJIC or sometimes abbreviated MAJI.

I don't even know if that term or related documents is known in any book or article or in any civilian life or even subject to the freedom of information act. But if you find any of that, it is even more interesting than the MAJESTIC documents.

The interesting thing is the guys in these documents are real guys that you can verify from thier military work to civilian enginearing work or from intelligence to retired security work.

I have a close friend that used to be a MP security at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. He is now a cop doing undercover work in the narc dept. He has fake identities they give him for that part of job.

Some of the guys in this will have a history at Wright Patterson. They get recruited at places like that. Then they have to go through a psych test to see if they can handle it.

Also, my friend in intelligence in Korea, some of these mentioned guys will have Korea on their resume. And the retired security guys often have NSA in their background. I have a friend that was just recruited for NSA and recently sent me a postcard from Iraq.

You can see when this stuff matches up to reality. Same with the engineering stuff. The physics are pretty sophisticated. To fake the MJ or J-rod stuff, it would have to be professional mis-information.

Let me know if you see any MAGIC/MAJIC. I'm curious if any of that comes up. I'd like to see what is public on that.

Re: I've been asked to speak at Harvard...

Thanks,
It's January 30. I'll keep this board updated as I learn more.

Re: Kabuki Gai Jeans shirt
May 11, 2004 8:07 pm

Yeah, there are two different GAI-JEANS shirts.

One is black with the logo big on the front.

The other one is the actual cover to Scarab #2. It is white and has the logo and the three characters, Seiko, Keiko (Scarab), and Yukio.

Both are cool!

Re: Kabuki Gai Jeans shirt
May 12, 2004 7:32 am

I was real impressed by the Hero Clix. They did five Kabuki characters (both Siamese are on one stand together).

A lot of people at conventions tell me they started reading Kabuki because they were using the Kabuki characters as their Hero Clix team. Used them in thier games, and liked them as the game... and then wanted to learn more about the game characters so they started reading the books!

So that is great to hear. I was impressed by how popular this heroclix game is.
And the little Kabuki, Scarab, Tigerlily, Siamese, figure sculpts are really cool too!

Re: Kabuki Gai Jeans shirt
May 12, 2004 7:35 am

Glad you are getting the Scarab figure too. I was really happy with how it turned out. Have you seen it in person? It rocks. I've been displaying them at the cons I do.

It is the same size and compatable with the previous Kabuki figure, but it has a lot more articulation points.

And an Akemi figure! Very glad to have one of those!

Siamese are the next figures. They will come together as a set in the same package. And they will have all kinds of extra prosthetic arms that you can mix and match.

Re: Kabuki Gai Jeans shirt
May 12, 2004 7:38 am

After Siamese, any suggestions on which figure we should do next? Tigerlily, Snapdragon, Butoh, ice?

And let me know if there are any other Kabuki shirts you'd like to see.

I've been thinking of doing a shirt that has the same big barcode on the front that Butoh has on her costume.

Ken Watanabe would be a great Kai.

Re: Kabuki live action film questions...

Hey Tridon,
Thanks for the kind words!
Really glad you like all the Kabuki books and are looking forward to the new one!
I love Ziyi too. I think she is amazing, and I'd love to have her in the film

Are you going to the Toronto Comic Expo?
I did it with Bendis last year and had a great time. I'm going again this year. Also I did the Toronto Comic Arts Festival last year, and it was great too. We had a great time in Toronto both times last year.

Re: Alias and The Pulse
May 12, 2004 7:56 am

Hey Doc,
The trial of the Kingpin references in Wake Up are from my DD story in DD 9-15. I wrote them with Quesada on art.
You can get it in a trade called DAREDEVIL: Parts of a Hole.

Then Wake Up 16-19 is one of my favorite Bendis stories.

This story was actually Bendis' FIRST EVER script for Marvel. This was his first work that he wrote for them. And from that script he got the Ult Spidey job. Spidey saw publication first, but Wake Up was the first Marvel work.

And it is very cool on many levels.
It also has me apeing Joe Q's style in parts of it

He was going to draw some parts of the kids fantasy world. He ended up not having time, but we wanted this kids world to look like the Q art in the other DD books. So I just mimicked JQ.

Hence the "Just do Joe Quesada" that you may hear about on this board and on the DD DVD

Re: Kabuki Gai Jeans shirt
May 12, 2004 8:21 pm

Hi Alysha,
Thanks for the response!
I'll choose what figure to come out after Scarab and Siamese based on reader/fan response. So... one vote for Ice

Tridon,
Yeah you can get any of the Graphitti design shirts by asking your store to order them.

I think Graphitti has done 6 Kabuki shirts so far. They may have a site that shows them. And you can ask Anh at . We have all the Graphitti shirts and also some others: The Control Corps shirt seen in SKin Deep and Metamorphosis, and the Dragon tatoo on a black shirt (both of these in T-shirt style or girl babydoll T). And have a Dynamaic Forces produced Kabuki shirt.

Re: Kabuki Gai Jeans shirt
May 12, 2004 11:41 pm

Yup!

Probably later in the year (to be out before Christmas time) I'd imagine.
Do you think they should start with another full size Kabuki statue? Or go right to a Scarab or Siamese statue?

Hey Ranger Chic,
I'm seeing Alchemy as minium 8 issues... and possibly as much as 10 or 12.

This is a pretty ambitious story for me, and more layers of the story keep revealing themselves and demanding to be included

This story is very much a culmination and climactic payoff of all of the other stories...

Especially Circle of Blood, Skin Deep, and Metamorphosis.

And also has some Scarab references in it.

Re: I've been asked to speak at Harvard...
May 13, 2004 6:10 am

Sounds good. If a University invites... I try to work it out.

And there is a traveling show of my art scheduled for schools that want in on the action.

It was up in NKU the at the main gallery in the Fine Arts center.
It has 365 pieces, including hand made books, life size sculptures, large paintings and originals from Daredevil and Kabuki and more.

If you school is interested have them contact Gallery Director David Knight at NKU. He is organizing which Universities the show travels to, and all the details involved in that.

For more info on this, maybe photos or more, just do a google search with the words:
David Mack NKU
Maybe add Kabuki or David Knight to get his info on the search.

There should be a lot of news articles on it, and maybe some photos of it and other stuff.

They did a really good job of it. And I did some lectures and workshops at NKU during the month of the exhibition. At one of the lectures they gave me a state award from the House of Representatives.
And For 2003 they gave me their highest university award of Outstanding Alumni Award of 2003. They had the Award Ceremony in January. I was in pretty amazing acedemic company and they played the interview on the DD DVD and had Kabuki action figures and comics at every tabel. Was real high class and academic, and cool and bizarre to see them talking about my comics and stuff

Probably all the info your school needs for any of this is online.
Thanks for the interest

Well...
That is about the highest form of compliment for both of those stories.

Thanks! That makes it all worth it.

Re: I'm back, news, updates, conventions, girlfriend,Kabuki,
May 13, 2004 6:26 am

I guarantee that you will get even more out of it in the RE-reading!
There are several levels of the story that play at the same time. Some are sort of encrypted, so that you won't see them until you re- read it in context of the other trades as well

Re: Kabuki Gai Jeans shirt
May 13, 2004 10:59 am

Thanks for the vote for the Scarab statue! I think it is a great idea.
I'll pass that on.

The Kabuki Sickle Replica is still a go. Glad you are looking forward to it! It will be out this year for sure. Diamond Select just wanted to wait until the new Kabuki series started before they release it.

It will be in one of the next couple Diamond Previews Catalogues.
